EPL: What Conte told us about Moses – Courtois

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed what Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte told them about Victor Moses during the Premier League barren draw with Everton on Saturday.

Courtois revealed that Conte reminded the outfield players to pass the ball more often to the skillful lateral players, including Victor Moses.

Wizkid Finally Speaks On The Rivalry Between Him And Davido

Starboy, Wizkid, has finally spoken about the “perceived rivalry” between himself and DMW Boss, Davido.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, Wizzy, as he is fondly called made it known he does not see Davido as a rival as his attention is placed on making good music.

In his words:-

I don’t dwell on things like that. Music is my focus, not rivalry. It’s all about making good music for me, and I believe that the sky is wide enough for all to fly.

This year has been very great for me and I am thankful to God and all my fans.

I have been very busy and it has been a roller-coaster for me. I don’t take it for granted, and I will always put my best into all that I do.

It is about showcasing Nigeria to the world in the proper light, and I am glad that there is now more focus on African music. There are indeed a lot of talents out here.

On what prompted his visit to his old neighbourhood in Surulere, Lagos, earlier in the year, he said,

I am a Surulere boy through and through. That is my identity and I’m proud of where I come from. I went back to the hood to see my people and to spread some love.

I have spent the most part of this year travelling, so when I had the opportunity to mingle with my people, I took it.”

The singer also stated that he was humbled by his recognition as the Best International Act by the Music of Black Origin award in England.

“I see that award as a win for Africa. It is a special and humbling one for me and my fans,  he said.

Withdraw your wards from local Turkish schools, Erdogan tells Nigerians, other Africans

The President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, has called on parents in Africa to withdraw their children from Turkish-run schools across the continent because the schools are run by those he described as terrorists.

In an exclusive interview with AllAfrica.com prior to a three-country official visit to Sudan, Chad and Tunisia this week, Mr. Erdogan said the schools are run by an organisation that uses education as a façade to hide their real intent.
The schools are linked to United States based Cleric, Fethullah Gulen, a former ally of Mr Erdogan turn arch-rival. Mr. Erdogan accused Mr. Gulen as being the mastermind of the July 2016 attempted coup that left 250 people dead. Mr. Gulen has denied the accusations.

“Without any further ado, I will like to mention something. Whether your nephews, nieces and your children, do not send them to either one of these network schools,” Mr. Erdogan said.

“Education is just a disguise for the terrorists working for these organisations, even religion is a disguise for the Fethullahists. In the Quran, Allah condemned those who are using prayers as disguised as they will never be conscientious to the practice of prayer that is why we would remain alert. We would never be manipulated. The coup plotters are the Fethullahists.

“They have all been identified and some of them have been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. These Fethullahists came to kill me and my family members but Allah protected us and in a matter of minutes we were saved from their bombs, their attacks but two of my security guarded were killed… there are 29 martyrs around the presidential complex which was attacked that night as well.

“We are warning all our brothers in Africa not to be deceived because the Fethullahists have great sums of money out of their actions. In 1999, the Chief terrorist, fled to the United States to live in Pennsylvania. We have demanded his extradition immediately.”

Mr. Erdogan threatened that if the United States refuses to extradite Mr. Gulen to face terrorism charges in Turkey, he would reject any demand made by the United States for Turkey to extradite terrorists to the United States.

“We have amassed 85 boxes filled with evidence proving that he was the major perpetrator of the coup but he has not been extradited yet. But tomorrow if the United States asked for the extradition of a terrorist I will say no to them because this man is the killer of 252 martyrs, 292 veterans; still residing in the United States.”

BMW's big-boy X7 SUV enters preproduction phase

Before a vehicle enters production in earnest, it goes through a process called preproduction. That's where
BMW's all-new X7 is right now.
BMW announced today that the X7 has entered the preproduction phase at the automaker's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Preproduction is the phase in between prototyping and production, which gives the automaker the chance to see how the vehicle fares on an assembly line, and it also gives one more chance to make sure there aren't any issues.

Because the vehicle is not 100 percent ready for the spotlight just yet, BMW is wrapping its pre-pro X7s in camouflage, which will obscure its body lines and prevent spy photographers from getting a full shot of the car before BMW stages its unveiling. BMW claims the car will be unveiled in late 2018, likely around the Los Angeles Auto Show or the Paris Motor Show before it.

Peter Okoye who now goes by the stage name Mr P in a new interview with Silvervlbird TV, shut down the hopes. According to him, P-Square returning to the stage as a duo is like chasing the winds and a no go area.

Ottawa researchers use viruses to target and destroy HIV

While Ottawa researchers are known for their work on cancer-fighting viruses, one team is applying these viruses to a new target: HIV.

Researchers at The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa have discovered that the Maraba virus, or MG1, can target and destroy the kind of HIV-infected cells that standard antiretroviral therapies can't reach.

This laboratory discovery was published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases .
If this technique works in humans, it might possibly contribute to a cure for HIV.

While daily medications keep the level of HIV virus in the blood low, there is currently no way to totally eliminate dormant HIV-infected cells from the body. If a person living with HIV stops taking antiretroviral medications, these hidden viruses rapidly rebound.

These latently HIV-infected cells are hard to target because they are not distinguishable from normal cells. Dr. Jonathan Angel and his team tried a new approach of identifying these dormant cells by using the MG1 virus. This virus attacks cancer cells that have defects in their interferon pathway, which makes the cells more vulnerable to viruses. Dr. Angel and his team previously found that latently HIV-infected cells also have defects in this pathway.

"We thought that because latently HIV-infected cells had similar characteristics to cancer cells, that the virus would enter and destroy them," said Dr. Angel, senior scientist and infectious disease physician at The Ottawa Hospital, and professor at the University of Ottawa. "It turns out we were right."

California Amplifies The Cancer Scare From Cellphones

After numerous studies over two decades, there is no convincing evidence that cellphone use increases the risk of cancer. Consensus within the medical profession is that the health effects of regular cellphone use are quite small, if they exist at all. Some studies even show health benefits.

But that didn’t stop the California Department of Public Health last week from issuing their Guidance on How to Reduce Exposure to Radiofrequency Energy from Cell Phones.  To be fair, they were forced to by a CA State Judge who ruled in favor of a UC Berkeley conspiracy theorist named Joel Moskowitz who had sued for release of such guidelines.

95% of Americans own a cellphone. Children now get their first cellphone around age 10, and most millennials keep their phones on or near them most of the day, even when they sleep.

So it would seem relevant to know whether or not it could be dangerous. But after years of study, the International Agency for Research on Cancer at the World Health Organization only classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as ‘possibly’ carcinogenic. Conspiracy theorists got more excited about that than the medical community.

In one study that followed more than 420,000 cellphone users over a 20-year period, researchers found no evidence of a link between cellphones and brain tumors, the obvious cancer of concern. Other studies, especially from Oxford and the Swiss Public Health Institute have also found no correlation.

Cellphones send and receive radiowave signals to and from cellphone towers. These signals are a form of electromagnetic radiation called radiofrequency (RF) energy, like that generated by TV and radio transmitters. When a phone sends signals to a tower, the RF energy goes from the phone’s antenna out in all directions, including into the head and body of the person using the phone.

Cellphones also emit RF energy when using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but at lower levels.

Unlike ionizing radiation like gamma rays, neutrons and alpha particles, RF does not have enough energy to split chemical bonds, such as those in compounds like DNA in our cells, which can cause cancer at really high doses.

Some think that, while RF can’t split bonds, it might heat up cells enough to cause damage. But our bodies are really good at heat regulation so you’d have to get an awful lot of dose to do anything, like put your head in a microwave oven, and there is no evidence this happens with cellphones.

(This type of RF heating is quite different from the hot phones that recently spontaneously began burning and were recalled. That was from the batteries overheating)

With years of study and billions of people using cellphones, the fact that we have no real evidence that cellphone use causes cancer means there is little need to worry about it. It’s one of those phantom worries, like low levels of radiation, that is so far below the noise of everyday risks that it’s foolish to spend any effort or money trying to guard against it. Especially since you’ll end up not spending that effort and money addressing real risks – like air pollution, eating too many carbs or driving while texting.

If holding the cellphone to your head is the real vector, then just put it on speaker or facetime, or use the hands-free option in your car. I always put my calls on speaker anyway, not for this reason, but because my old arms get tired.

Or you could just text instead…but not while driving.

Worried About Your Brain? Check Your Blood Pressure

We typically think of high blood pressure as a risk factor for heart attacks. But it can also cause serious harm to our brains. Left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to small “silent strokes,” cognitive impairment, and dementia.

Hypertension, the clinical term for high blood pressure, is a disease that results in an above average amount of pressure on the walls of our arteries. Over time, this pressure damages the blood vessels. Though it can cause a range of health problems, hypertension is particularly dangerous for the brain .

Arteries carry vital oxygen and glucose to our brains. And because the brain is a resource hog—it accounts for just 2 percent of our body weight but uses
20 percent of our available oxygen and calories —minor problems with blood vessels and blood flow can have major consequences.

Researchers note that:

“brain tissue deprived of oxygen and glucose as a result of compromised blood supply is likely to sustain transient or permanent damage."

Doctors can see the damage on MRI brain scans. The scans can reveal small strokes and “hyperintensities” deep in the brain’s white matter, which indicate cerebral small vessel disease. This damage in white matter can lead to vascular cognitive impairment and vascular dementia, which is the second most common form of dementia.

Hypertension is also recognized as a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.
But there is some good news. Some studies suggest proper treatment of hypertension can reduce dementia risk by as much as 50 percent . And several clinical trials are studying whether anti-hypertensive drugs might be beneficial for dementia prevention and treatment.

At Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Dr. Sandra Black is comparing two popular classes of anti-hypertensive drugs to see which better protects the brain from vascular damage. Using available data, she has already found that angiotensin receptor blockers reduced dementia risk significantly more than ACE-inhibitors. Dr. Ihab Hajjar at Emory University is conducting a clinical trial of candesartan , a type of angiotensin receptor blocker, to test its potential to prevent or slow the development of Alzheimer’s in patients with mild cognitive impairment.

Both of those studies focus on Alzheimer’s, but others are working on vascular dementia. At St George's, University of London, Dr. Atticus Hainsworth is testing tadalafil (commonly known as Cialis) in patients with cerebral small vessel disease to see if it can improve blood flow and treat vascular dementia.

All of the studies mentioned were supported by the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, where I am the Chief Science Officer. Other funders are joining our efforts.

Earlier this year, the NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke announced a consortium to study vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia.

The group will focus on the development of better diagnostic tools for vascular changes in the brain. This will enable researchers to identify patients with early signs of cerebral small vessel disease and treat them so they never develop dementia.

Soon, we will have effective treatments for vascular dementia. Today, you can lower your odds of developing it by managing hypertension.

The family of Miss Iraq have been forced to flee the country after the winner posed for a picture with Miss Israel.

Iraqi beauty queen Sarah Idan posted a selfie of her Israeli counterpart Adar Gandelsman attending the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, US.

Idan’s intentions, as per her caption, was to promote ‘peace and love’ but some social media users weren’t having any of it.

Such was the backlash in Iraq over the picture that Idan’s family have since left the country for fear of a violent retribution.

Gandelsman told Israeli TV:

People made threats against her and her family that if she didn’t return home and take down the photos, they would remove her title, that they would kill her…
Out of fear, they left Iraq at least until the situation calms down.
Idan, 27, said Gandelsman wishes ‘that one day there will be peace between the two religions (Judaism and Islam) and that her children will not have to do military service’, reports Mail Online.

She added:

She asked for a photo and I agreed, saying that I too hoped for peace and wanted to help pass on the message.

The report states that the chateau’s ownership is meticulously hidden through various shell companies in France and Luxembourg, all of which are owned by Eight Investment Company, a Saudi firm led by the head of Prince Mohammed’s personal foundation.

It was earlier reported that the crowned prince is currently spearheading an anti-corruption probe and wealth accumulation at home that saw more than 200 princes and dozens of former ministers being detained.

Prince Mohammed’s rise to power began in 2013, when he was named the head of the Crown Prince’s Court, with the rank of a minister.

BREAKING NEWS: Shocker As Mnangagwa Replaces President Mugabe

Zimbabwe's ruling party ZANU-PF on Sunday sacked President Robert Mugabe as party leader and replaced him with recently fired vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa had been fired by Mugabe not long ago.

The Chairman of the Zimbabwe War Veterans Association Chris Mutsvangwa told The Independentthat the party was beginning the process to remove Mugabe as President of Zimbabwe.

Party sources told Reuters that his wife Grace Mugabe has also been expelled from the party. She was also stripped of her position as chair of the party’s women’s league.

Zimbabwe's parliament, according to The Guardian, will reconvene on Tuesday and is expecting to move to impeach the president if he has not given up power.

Mugabe's grip on power was broken last week when the military took over after his wife Grace emerged as the leading candidate to succeed the 93-year-old president, who is the world's oldest head of state.

"We meet with a heavy heart," party official Obert Mpofu told the ZANU-PF meeting in Harare on Sunday, referring to Mugabe as "the outgoing president".

"(Mugabe's) wife and close associates have taken advantage of his frail condition to usurp power and loot state resources," he said.

"Our people are demanding... the recall of the president and first secretary of ZANU-PF from his position in the party."

The Guardian also reported that when the motion to remove Mugabe as head of party was passed, the hall broke into cheers, song and dance.

Historic week

Zimbabweans have experienced a historic week in which the military seized power and put Mugabe under house arrest in response to his sacking of vice-president Mnangagwa, chief rival of Mugabe's powerful 52-year-old wife Grace.

On Saturday, in scenes of public euphoria not seen since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, huge crowds marched and sang their way through Harare and other cities.

The demonstrations included citizens of all ages, jubilant that Mugabe appeared to be on his way out.

In central Harare, a group of young men tore down a green metal street sign bearing Robert Mugabe's name and smashed it repeatedly on the road.

Such open dissent would have just a week ago been routinely crushed by security forces.

Peace, jobs, a normal life

The majority of Zimbabweans have only known life under Mugabe's rule, which has been defined by violent suppression, economic collapse and international isolation.

Sources suggest Mugabe has been battling to delay his exit and to secure a deal guaranteeing future protection for him and his family.

He attended a university graduation ceremony on Friday, in a show of defiance at the talks with General Constantino Chiwenga, who led the military power grab.

The succession race that triggered Zimbabwe's sudden crisis was between party hardliner Mnangagwa – known as the Crocodile – and a group called "Generation 40" or "G40" because its members are generally younger, which campaigned for Grace's cause.

"She is very acceptable. Very much accepted by the people," Mugabe said of Grace in a faltering interview to mark his 93rd birthday last February.

The president, who is feted in parts of Africa as the continent's last surviving liberation leader, is in increasingly fragile health, but previously said he would stand in elections next year that could see him remain in power until aged nearly 100.

He became prime minister on Zimbabwe's independence from Britain in 1980 and then president in 1987.

Zimbabwe's economic output has halved since 2000 when many white-owned farms were seized, leaving the key agricultural sector in ruins.

What went wrong between Wizkid, Davido and Sarkodie in Dubai? — here’s what we know

It was a bittersweet experience for some headlining artistes slated to perform at the recently held One Africa Music Fest Tour in Dubai.

An array of African stars were billed to take the stage at the musical festival, one of which was Ghanaian hip-hop star Sarkodie.

The rapper was, however, denied the chance to do so — not just once but twice on the night.

The Ghanaian artiste was supposed to perform after Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, but couldn’t because Wizkid delved into his solo performance right after his ‘Ma Lo’ duet with Savage.

Sarkodie was then scheduled to go onstage after Tekno but it was dejavou all over again.

Davido, after performing with the ‘Pana’ singer, used the opportunity to proceed with his own performance.

The Ghanaian act later announced via his Twitter page that he would not be taking the stage any longer.

He wrote: “Sorry to fans in Dubai but I’m not performing… hopefully I make it next time.”

This won’t be the first time an artiste would be disappointed at the One Africa Music Fest due to mismanagement – neither would it be the first time Nigerian acts would misbehave publicly at the concert.

US-based Nigerian singer, Jidenna, apologised to fans via his Instagram page over his inability to perform at the Fest held in London, UK.

The concert had ended abruptly as a result of the poor management of time by the organisers, making it impossible for The Chief, as he’s fondly called, to get on stage.

Shatta Wale, a Ghanaian act, who has been bashing Wizkid of late, tweeted to Sarkodie over the Dubai incident.

Wale called out his fellow countryman, saying, “It is high time you respect your brand bro. They are using you too much. Don’t vex for the truth”.

The twosome then welcomed their first child together, little Alexis, on Sept. 1.

5-Year-Old Girl Weds Her Bestfriend Before Her 4th Heart Surgery (See Photos)

A little girl who was born with a life-threatening heart condition saw a big wish come true recently, when she was able to “marry” her best friend in a special playground ceremony.

Sophia Elyssa Chiappalone, of Connecticut, has already undergone two open-heart surgeries and several other procedures, and had made the special request ahead of a third surgery, which is scheduled for January at Boston Children’s Medical Center, Yahoo reported.

On Oct. 23, Sophia and her best friend, Hunter, who she met in preschool, joined together on a playground and exchanged “vows” while photographer Marisa Balletti-Lavoie of Sassy Mouth Photo captured the precious images. The idea came from the pint-sized bride herself, and was happily agreed to by Hunter and his mom.

Sophia was diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, which is a genetic heart defect involving four different issues, shortly after her birth.

Sophia’s mother, Kristy Somerset-Chiappalone, started the “Sophia Elyssa Chiappalone the beautiful baby with a broken heart” Facebook page and explained that her daughter’s case is considered severe and will require several open-heart procedures before it is completely repaired.

The condition is also likely to shorten her lifespan, and she will need a heart and lung transplant in the future.

REPORTS: Real Madrid star Ronaldo wants a move to Chelsea

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is being linked with a return to Premier League in recent week, the Portuguese forward has told President Florentino Perez of his desire to leave at the end of the season, according to report.

Ronaldo wants Real Madrid directors to pay him a wage that is higher Neymar and Lionel Messi’s wage, he believes being the best player on the planet he deserves more than his rivals.

And according to Spanish transfer outlet Don Balon, Ronaldo has told his agent Jorge Mendes to sort a move to Chelsea.

The report claims Ronaldo thinks Manchester United cannot afford to sign him and he's keen to live in London.
Don Balon add that the Real Madrid star is desperate to return to the Premier League.

Chelsea is his preferred destination, with Manchester United the attacker's second option.

Ronaldo’s is yet to switch to full gear this season, with the 32-year-old scoring just one La Liga goal in seven appearances.Real Madrid is back in action this weekend, with the La Liga champions travelling to Atletico Madrid.
